TALENT MANAGEMENT INFORMAL EVENING EVENT – THURSDAY 5 MAY 2016
We invite you to an informal evening event which covers the ‘Talent Management’ theme.
The event is taking place in London on Thursday 5 May from 5:30pm, concluding at circa 9.30pm. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
Jane Frankland author of ‘Women in Cyber Security’ book will discuss the five challenges the cyber security profession needs to overcome if it’s going to attract, recruit and retain a more gender diverse cyber security workforce.

‘Cyber Resilience Workshop’
We brought together a multidisciplinary team of security professionals to discuss how to define good practice in cyber resilience. The event was an informal, interactive workshop with a diverse range of attendees providing thought leadership on this important topic. The aim is to publish a report on Cyber Resilience, contributing to industry knowledge, and highlighting that women are at the forefront of this industry. This event also provided an excellent opportunity for professional development and networking.
‘Protecting Assets in High Risk Environments’
This event was more informal than our previous events and focussed on how best to protect business and people assets in high risk environments. Topics included:
- Kidnap and ransom; a specialist from Aegis outlined lessons learnt from the handling of Kidnap incidents
- Protecting data; a speaker from Digital Shadows provided advice on the vulnerabilities of travelling to high risk countries with corporate/sensitive data
‘How Safe is Our Data?’
Hosted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, our January conference entitled ‘How safe is our data?’ kicked 2015 off in style. Despite the severe weather more than 80 delegates attended to listen to three excellent speakers and debate the pertinent issues of data privacy and assurance. ‘Your Personal Brand: Capitalising On Who You Are’
On the 16th September 2014 more than 100 men and women came togather to think about their own identities and brand. The audit firm PwC hosted the event in their Embankment Place offices and one of the firms senior Partners and Head of People, Gaenor Bagley, welcomed everyone, stressing the importance of diversity and embracing difference to the firm. Women in Security, Today, Then, Tomorrow
Friday 11th October 2013 saw veterans, women in top security positions and the next generation of cyber defenders meet at the home of British codebreaking. Today, Then, Tomorrow, held at Bletchley Park, was organised by the Cyber Security Challenge UK and The Women’s Security Society and supported by Raytheon.
The event celebrated the history of women in cyber security and explored the need to encourage more women into the profession, which is facing an acute skills shortage. For a full review of the event please login to the members area.
2nd Members Conference – Forward Thinking
On 4th September 2013, KPMG provided the backdrop for the 2nd Members Conference of the WSS. With some inspiring, enlightening and somewhat comical(!) presentations, the afternoon conference continued well into the evening with networking over drinks. A full summary of the can be read here.
Careers Awareness
On the 25th July 2013 the WSS hosted a careers awareness evening at the Home Office. With a fantastics array of speakers the event was hugely insightful, with over 100 women in attendance. We are currently looking into all requests that were made at the event for people to become a mentor or equally to be mentored, and will be in touch in the coming weeks.
Members launch!
Following the success of the WSS soft launch on the 26th February 2013, the inaugural members launch occured on Friday 24th May 2013.
We are extremely thankful to our three key-note speakers on the evening, who each provided fascinating insights into their respective fields of expertise: Rebecca Stephens MBE, Professor Gloria Laycock, BSc, PhD, FRSA, OBE and Emma Hunwick.

Close Protection Women’s Networking Event
Women from the world of Close Protection came together for the first known networking event of its kind, at the Cadogan Hotel in London on the 28th May 2013.
With the support of WSS Directors the women were brought together by the company Umbra, whose aim is to connect female Close Protection Operatives creating opportunities within the industry.
It was a relaxed and informal event, with interesting discussions including the challenges faced within the sector, networking for job opportunities, and training course recommendations.

Roundtable – Women in Cyber-Security
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) hosted a roundtable event with the WSS to gather opinion from both men and women on the skills required and the challenges faced by the female professional working in Cyber Security roles today and in the future. Soft launch!
On Tuesday 26th February 2013 the Women’s Security Society (WSS) launched to a packed room at a central London location.
The principle founders and board members welcomed guests from equally diverse areas of the wider world of security. The excitement and buzz was in the air, the food and wine was in abundance and the guests were encouraged by the energy in the room. This was not the usual ‘Security Gathering’ – this was the start of something new and different within the world of security.

The Risk and Network Threat Forum (RANT)
The RANT (Risk and Network Threat) Forum is a monthly networking event specifically for senior Information Security Professionals who are working within an end user environment. The RANT Forum provides a unique platform for the InfoSec community to meet like minded people in an informal environment. The RANT events offer a great platform to discuss and debate the hot topics in the industry, lead by some of the best InfoSec thought leaders, evangelists and entertaining speakers. Guests are encouraged to pitch in with their opinions, views, and suggestions throughout the talks.

Annual Dinner of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (WCoSP)
Tom Temple was honoured on 7 October 2013 at the prestigious occasion of the Annual Dinner of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (WCoSP).
